John edits in a variety of fields, including: kaupapa Māori; fiction; general and academic non-fiction; public sector reports, education texts; science; health; legal history; biography; sport; art; and culture.
Before founding Ahi, John was senior editor at Huia Publishers focusing on the trade publishing list. During a decade at Huia, and subsequently at Ahi, he has worked on a variety of prize-winning and award-nominated books. He also writes cultural commentary. John is a member of Te Waka Toi, the Māori arts board of Creative New Zealand and is on the Advisory Committees of the Whitirea Polytechnic Diploma in Publishing (where he sometimes tutors) and the Writing Programme.
John has a BA (Hons) with first class honours in English literature. He was awarded a Victoria University PhD scholarship and was working on a doctoral thesis in the post-colonial novel when the chance to make a difference for Māori literature beckoned from the publishing industry.

John is into music, road cycling, and loads of other stuff. And at the centre of it all is his whānau.

Sarah-Jane McCosh is a typesetter, designer, researcher and mum.    
Before founding Ahi, Sarah-Jane combined freelance typesetting with full-time motherhood. She had previously spent six years in parliament as a research unit manager, project manager, researcher and ministerial adviser.
Sarah-Jane is a trustee on the Rata Street School Board, and is a singer and committee member with the Orpheus Choir of Wellington, currently content-managing their website. She has also spent two years as president of the local Playcentre and being involved at Association level. She has had articles published in Interface and The Publisher.
Sarah-Jane has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Politics, with Honours in Politics (First Class). She loves singing and enjoys running and family activities.
